For as long as I can remember, it seems like most people in our industry have had some level of discomfort when dealing with doors. On the supply side, we struggle with getting our arms around a building supply category with seemingly endless options. It is easy to see why some salespeople tend to shy away from selling doors at all.

On the contractor side, it can also be worrisome. The same myriad choices stare you in the face and require proper navigation to end up with a quality solution. Then to top it all off, many times the product ordered is a "special order" item, and if ordered incorrectly creates a potential scenario where someone is stuck with a non-returnable door. It's no wonder that building contractors are very loyal buyers when they find a knowledgeable and accurate salesperson.

While we are still working on systems to minimize ordering errors and the related stress on the front end, I am thrilled to say that we now have some fabulous resources to help you install your doors correctly.

Our friend Gary Katz put together this video and written article titled Problem-free Prefit Doors.

Preparing the rough opening, correcting cross-leg issues, the placement of every screw, the location of every shim, and the order of these actions, they all have a specific reason you do them that way. You guessed it, to allow you to make adjustments at a later date with nothing more than your screw gun.

Consistent quality, increased speed and less callbacks—these are always our reason for sharing Gary's methods with you. There will be plenty of "Ah hah!" moments as you view this, please let us know the ones that will help you sleep better from now on!
