"Did you know we can help you find custom moulding or millwork to fit your needs? Read on to learn how."
The housing stock in the Pacific Northwest features many architectural styles that all have their own twist when it comes to moulding and millwork patterns. Our video series with Dunn Lumber CEO Mike Dunn and local interior designer Keith Miller speaks to some of the most common styles you will find in the PNW.
Some moulding and millwork patterns have stood the test of time and continue to be readily available—others not so much. Whether you just need to replace a damaged piece or two or you are doing a larger remodel project, we can help you match your existing profiles.
How to order custom moulding and millwork profiles at Dunn Lumber
Once you have decided you will need to pursue a custom moulding or millwork item, contact your local Dunn Lumber, and we will help you through the process.
Here are a few things we will need from you:
- A detailed drawing of the pattern (or a profile photo of the item) with measurements for height, thickness, as well as other key locations needed to create the profile. Alternatively, a small cut sample of the pattern (if possible) allows for the closest match as it can be mailed to the mill for reference.
- The species of wood you are looking for and whether you are planning to paint or stain.
- The tally (lengths) you need for your project.
Once we have this information, in most cases, we can provide you a price estimate and order details within 1-2 business days. Quotes for custom orders can have up to a 5% overage included in the pricing.
Some custom orders may require a larger setup charge should new “knives” for the machinery need to be created. These setup charges can influence the pricing significantly on smaller orders.

Custom ordering, lead, and delivery times
When you are ready to order, we will complete your sales order and get things rolling with the mill supplier. They will likely need you to approve the detailed drawing (example below) used to produce your custom order. This approval process can typically be done through email. Once your sales order is placed, you can typically expect delivery within 3-4 weeks.

Don’t let limited local market availability keep you from getting exactly what you want for your project. Reach out to Dunn Lumber today and let us help you with your custom moulding and millwork needs.
